ANTI-PLAGIARISM POLICY

Academic integrity and ethical conduct a paramount in the pursuit of excellence to ensure proper conduct in the pursuit of academic objectives. As a university the plagiarism policy is directed towards ensuring that students, academics and other key stakeholders act in the most ethical manner in regards to academic material. The policy provides a guideline on how to identify, manage and deter acts of plagiarism from taking place. The university community and the academic fraternity must act in a manner that fosters research, innovation, outreach and sharing of key findings. This can be best achieved when they are policies in place to ensure quality and proper conduct of those pursuing excellence.

This policy is step in the direction of securing quality research and acts a guideline todirect participants in research to act in the most ethical manner. This policy works in accordance with existing policies and adds on critical matters to be addressed in terms of plagiarism.

The university management and the Directorate of Graduate Studies and Innovation have presented this policy to ensure that are efforts towards research are unified whilst creating an regulatory environment that stimulates innovation with clear regulations present.

Open Access to Scholarly Works and Institutional Repository Policy at Busitema University

Policy Statement

Whereas: Busitema University strives to promote industrialization and sustainable development through inclusive high-quality training, quality research, and outreach.
Whereas: The Staff of Busitema University is committed to disseminating its research and scholarship as widely as possible.
Whereas: This research and scholarship benefits the University, Country, region, and the rest of the world.
Whereas: Open access allows for the greatest dissemination of research and scholarship.
Whereas: The Staff recognizes the benefits that accrue to them as individual scholars and to the scholarly enterprise from such wide dissemination, including greater recognition, more thorough review, consideration and critique, and a general increase in scientific, scholarly and critical knowledge.
Whereas: The Intellectual Property Policy and the Research and Grants Management Policy at Busitema University affirm that Staff retain “copyright rights to academic copyrightable works”.
Whereas: The Government of Uganda has expressed interest in the practices on Open Access in higher education institutions through Uganda National Council for Science and Technology.
Whereas: Busitema University Library endorsed the UNESCO Open Access Policy as an acceptable basis for the Busitema University's own policy.
Be It Resolved that the Staff at Busitema University adopts and implements the following policy on Open Access as approved by the University Council on the 31st March 2023
